Growing up, Choudhrie had a challenging life. Not only did he live with a serious heart condition, but his parents were divorced when he was just six. Because of the divorce, his mom had to step up and do everything for him, and there was a lot to do in a foreign country that had many different customs. Sudhir Choudhrie was forced to move from the capital city of Delhi to a small village.
After working with his grandfather for several years in the garment business, Sudhir went on to take an electrical engineering degree at the Institute of Technology (IIT) in Mumbai. Sudhir Choudhrie went on to work as a product manager for IBM for three years. He returned to India in 1980 and started his company, the Choudhrie Group.
He began developing some of his inventions that were ultimately incorporated into high-tech medical devices that he sold to leading medical device companies. Eventually, he realized his dream of creating a medical device company. Shortly after, he spent a few months as a tutor at an English school before deciding to go into business with his uncle to start a computer business.
In the early days of its operation, the firm only had two desktops with a single telephone line, but, with Choudhrie’s business acumen and salesmanship, it grew rapidly and soon flourished into a multi-million dollar business that brought in clients across India and around the world. Sudhir Choudhrie stayed on the sidelines and stayed hands-off for most of the business but left to start a pharmaceutical company with a partner.
The company thrived in India as well, growing to encompass a global reach in health products, expanding to Europe and the U.S. along the way. The drugstore chain he and his partners developed was a unique asset. While his health issues have led to other family members and close friends having health issues as well, his outlook on life has never changed. Sudhir Choudhrie has focused on health, happiness, and enjoying every moment of life, which has led him to become one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world.
